The Viking Age’s Adam Patrick and Tyler Haag went over the hiring of the Minnesota Vikings’ new offensive coordinator on this week’s episode of the show.

It was sad to see Pat Shurmur leave the Minnesota Vikings this year to take a head coaching job with the New York Giants. Shurmur’s first and only season as the Vikings’ full-time offensive coordinator was an impressive one as he still found ways for the team to succeed even without their first string quarterback or running back for most of the year.

In his place, Minnesota has brought in former Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo. With the help of DeFilippo’s guidance for the past two seasons, Eagles signal caller Carson Wentz was able to evolve from a struggling rookie in 2016 to an MVP-level quarterback in 2017.

The Vikings are hoping DeFilippo’s success in Philadelphia can follow him to the Twin Cities.

On this week’s episode of the Bleeding Purple Podcast, Tyler Haag and I went over our reactions to Minnesota’s recent hiring and a number of other Vikings-related topics including…

  • What should excite Vikings fans about DeFilippo?
  • Josh McCown to Minnesota?
  • The Vikings connections to Johnny Manziel
  • Norv Turner is going to ruin Cam Newton’s career
  • Frontrunner to be Vikings QB after DeFilippo hire?
  • Minnesota needs to find a long-term QB this offseason
  • Did the Vikings do Kevin Stefanski a favor?
  • Tyler loves him some Frank Reich
  • Adam watched the Tom Brady documentary
  • Are the Vikings going to give Kirk Cousins a ton of money?
  • Minnesota should explore trading Laquon Treadwell
  • Randy Moss was amazing
  • It’s okay for NFL players to have fun
  • Best Vikings touchdown celebration of 2017?
