The Minnesota Vikings and Denver Broncos agreed on a deal that sends the quarterback to the Twin Cities for the 2018 season.

Some assumed that the Minnesota Vikings were done adding quarterbacks this offseason once it was reported that the team and Kirk Cousins had agreed to a contract. However, the Vikings added another signal caller to their roster on Wednesday.

First reported by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Minnesota has acquired quarterback Trevor Siemian in a trade with the Denver Broncos.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter later provided more details of the trade between the two teams.

So not only did the Vikings add another quarterback with the trade, but Minnesota also has an extra pick now to use in this year’s NFL Draft.

One should assume that Siemian will be the backup behind Cousins for next season. But it’s also possible that Siemian will have to battle for the number two job with Kyle Sloter during training camp this summer.

Siemian only has one year remaining on his current contract that will pay him $1.907 million in 2018. With this trade, the Vikings were able to add a pretty decent backup for a very nice price.

Drafted out of Northwestern with a seventh-round selection by the Broncos in the 2015 draft, Siemian has started 24 games in his first three seasons in the NFL. Despite only being 26-years-old, the quarterback has plenty of in-game experience and would be able to provide Minnesota with a decent level of play if needed for a few games in 2018.

Overall, this is a good trade for the Vikings who now seem to be set at quarterback heading into next season.
