The Minnesota Vikings will reportedly face the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL’s annual Thursday night kickoff game next season.

It is not a game that many associated with the Minnesota Vikings would like to talk about ever again.

Just 60 minutes of football separated the Vikings and the opportunity to play in a Super Bowl at their home stadium. But the Philadelphia Eagles had their own plans.

In their NFC Championship matchup last season, the Eagles had zero trouble in defeating Minnesota by a final score of 38-7. It was easily the Vikings’ worst performance of the year.

Well now, Minnesota’s last opponent in 2017 will also be the very first team they will face in 2018.

According to Philadelphia SportsRadio 94 WIP’s Howard Eskin, the Eagles and Vikings will face off in next season’s annual Thursday night kickoff game at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field on September 6. This will be the first time Minnesota has played in the kickoff game since 2010 when they took on the New Orleans Saints.

Next season’s matchup between the Vikings and Philadelphia should hopefully be more entertaining than their most recent showdown in the NFC Championship.

Minnesota is coming in with a brand new starting quarterback in Kirk Cousins (who has played very well against the Eagles in his career) and Philadelphia will be doing their best to prove that their Super Bowl win in 2017 was not a fluke.

It will be a tough matchup for the Vikings according to recent history. Minnesota has won just once in Philadelphia since 1986 and the road team in the kickoff game has an all-time record of 3-13 since 2002.
