There are many great ways to enjoy the NFL, but the Minnesota Vikings were the first team to offer a connected-TV app for fans to stream video and content.
It is the era of streaming media. Whether it is Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Amazon, or any other app, people are watching more video-on-demand than ever and the Minnesota Vikings capitalized on this trend.
According to SportsVideo.org, the Vikings were the first team in the league to introduce a connected-TV app and the results have been overwhelmingly positive, with fans watching short clips and longer videos.
The app titled Vikings Now is currently available for Apple TV, Roku and Amazon Fire TV and other team-exclusive content for Minnesota fans can be found on the team’s mobile app for iOS or Android.
Scott Kegley, executive director of digital media and innovation for the Vikings, already had a great batch of video to choose from for the app, so the jump to a streaming platform made total sense.
"“We already had four longer television shows, so, for us, it was pretty natural to jump right in. But now we want to look for content that might be specific to OTT or some different streaming options now that we have that available. It’s really important to figure out how this fits in your content window and how you cater content to that.” Minnesota Vikings The Viking Age 0d - 6 biggest draft steals in Minnesota Vikings history More headlines around FanSided: 1d - Former Vikings first-round pick could reportedly return to NFC North 1d - Bears analyst has extremely embarrassing Kirk Cousins take 1d - 6 Vikings who (maybe) won't make the 53-man roster in 2023 2d - Which teams could be drafting a quarterback next year? 2d - Predicting what the Vikings will do in the 2023 NFL Draft based on 2022 More News at The Viking Age"
In addition to great shows like Vikings Connected and Beyond the Gridiron, there are many regular videos released by Minnesota that have found a home on the streaming platform including the following popular segments:
- CARaoke
- Wired For Sound
- 96 Questions (my personal favorite)
- Game highlights
- Game analysis
- NFL Network clips
- much more!
Other teams are likely to follow in the footsteps of the Minnesota Vikings and release their own Connected-TV apps in the future after seeing the success of Vikings Now. While many of the clips and videos are uploaded to the team’s official website or YouTube channel, having them all available in one convenient place and sorted for easy location is something all Minnesota fans should enjoy.
