The Minnesota Vikings have announced the signing of former Houston Texans linebacker Reshard Cliett during 2018 free agency leading up to the NFL Draft.

Even though the 2018 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, the Minnesota Vikings are still making deals in free agency to ensure they have the best possible roster available heading into the 2018 season.

On Thursday, March 29, 2018,  the team announced on their official website that free agent linebacker Reshard Cliett has been signed by the team after bouncing around the league for a while.

Cliett was a sixth-round selection in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans out of South Florida. Since then, he has spent a lot of time on the practice squads of several NFL franchises.

Here are the teams he has been a part of:

Houston Texans (2015)

Denver Broncos (2016)

New York Jets (2016)

Arizona Cardinals (2016)

Tennessee Titans (2017)

Kansas City Chiefs (2017)

Despite his inability to stick with an NFL team, it can be seen as a positive that he has spent time with so many franchises. This means he has enough talent to warrant a look from quite a few teams, and he was actually claimed off waivers by the Chiefs last season.

Cliett has yet to play a snap during the regular season but at only 25 years old, the 6’2″222-pound linebacker has the potential to take the next step in his career and become a valuable defensive or special teams player.

Of course, there is also the chance the Vikings will find another option in free agency or the Draft. That means Cliett could find himself struggling to find a spot in a defense which will see starters Anthony Barr, Eric Kendricks, and Ben Gedeon return and backups Kentrell Brothers, Eric Wilson, and Antwoine Williams fighting for spots on the roster.

While this isn’t a splash signing or something fans should get excited about, this is an inexpensive signing to get a look at a player who has shown enough potential on the field to warrant a shot with Minnesota.

Congratulations to linebacker Reshard Cliett on signing with the Minnesota Vikings and best of luck to him as the team focuses on being the best they can be for the 2018 NFL season.
