Minnesota Vikings: Jalyn Holmes and Tyler Conklin sign rookie contracts
By Adam Carlson
Following the signing of Minnesota Vikings draft picks Tyler Conklin and Jalyn, only the team’s first-round draft pick is left to be under contract.
The Minnesota Vikings have been hard at work with rookie minicamp underway, players trying out of the team, and trying to get the new players under contract as the NFL offseason calendar inches toward the preseason.
Today, it was announced on the team’s official website that two more members of the Vikings draft class inked their rookie deals, leaving only one draftee left to get a contract done: first-round selection Mike Hughes.
The announcement revealed that fourth-round draft pick Jalyn Holmes and fifth-round selection Tyler Conklin are the most recent draftees signed.
Minnesota Vikings
Jalyn Holmes – defensive line
- Now listed as a defensive tackle by the Vikings, Holmes recorded 84 total tackles (40 solo) including 5.0 sacks, 14 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 49 games played at Ohio State. His contract is reported to be worth $3.191 million over the course of four years according to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press on Twitter.
Tyler Conklin – tight end
- Conklin should join Kyle Rudolph, David Morgan, and possibly Blake Bell as the Vikings tight ends for the 2018 NFL season. During his senior year at Central Michigan, he had 35 catches for 504 yards and five touchdowns. Plus, he impressed at the Senior Bowl. His contract is a four-year, $2.741 million deal according to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press on Twitter.
The only remaining member of the class not to sign his contract, Mike Hughes spoke with the media after Friday’s practice and said that his agent is working with the team to ensure he gets the best possible deal.

Hopefully, Hughes will sign his contract soon. But now that 7 of the 8 Minnesota Vikings drafted have deals in place, it shouldn’t be too much longer before the entire rookie class is signed and ready for action this year.
