Which players will be competing this summer to be the starting slot cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings during the 2018 regular season?

A year after finishing the 2017 season with the NFL’s second-best pass defense, the Minnesota Vikings head into the summer with their top two corners in Xavier Rhodes and Trae Waynes ready to return for another season.

On the Vikings’ depth chart after Rhodes and Waynes is where things begin to get interesting though. Minnesota only has a few months left to figure out who they want to be the team’s nickel corner for the 2018 season.

Some believe the job is Mackensie Alexander’s to lose. But with the drafting of Mike Hughes and the re-signing of Terence Newman this offseason, who the Vikings’ third cornerback will be in 2018 is still very much up in the air.

Another candidate for the role could even emerge during Minnesota’s training camp or preseason this year as well. So just who are the players in contention to open the 2018 regular season as the Vikings’ starting nickel corner?
