After a season that ended with him earning a First-Team All-Pro selection, the Minnesota Vikings cornerback is ranked very low on the 2018 NFL Top 100 list.

The roads were indeed closed for those who had to face Minnesota Vikings cornerback Xavier Rhodes in 2017. Rhodes impressive performance in his fifth season with the Vikings last year resulted in him earning a First-Team All-Pro selection and a second-straight invite to the Pro Bowl.

It’s hard to argue against there being a better corner in the NFL last season. Who else was able to shut down some of the league’s top receivers like Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, and Mike Evans like Rhodes did in 2017?

Despite his excellent play last season, the Minnesota corner is only ranked as the 55th-best player on this year’s NFL Top 100 list. Rhodes is not even the top ranked corner on the list as Aqib Talib of the Los Angeles Rams ended up with the number 53 slot.

The Vikings cornerback did end up with a higher ranking than his spot on last year’s list (66th). But Rhodes was also not an All-Pro selection in 2016 either.

To make matters worse, former Minnesota quarterback Case Keenum (51st) received a higher spot than Rhodes on this year’s list as well. Yes Keenum did have a great season in 2017, but his ranking should not be higher than players who were All-Pro selections last year.

What’s even more interesting is the fact that NFL.com released their list of the top 10 corners heading into 2018 on Monday and Rhodes came in at number one. So he is better than every other cornerback in the NFL on one list but not on the other?

There always seem to be some head-scratching decisions when it comes to the NFL Top 100 list each year, but Rhodes’ latest ranking might be the most mind-boggling of them all.
