Stefon Diggs: ‘I love being here, I love playing for the Vikings’
By Adam Patrick
The talented young Minnesota Vikings receiver talked on Wednesday after the team’s second day of OTAs at the TCO Performance Center.
Currently in the final year of his rookie contract, there has been a lot of talk recently regarding an extension for Minnesota Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs. The Vikings likely do not want Diggs to hit free agency in 2019, so extending his contract sooner than later would be ideal.
Since Minnesota selected him in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the 24-year-old receiver has appeared in 40 games, catching a total of 200 passes for 2,472 yards and 15 touchdowns. No player drafted by the Vikings has ever caught as many balls in their first three seasons with the team as Diggs.
After Minnesota’s second OTA on Wednesday, the young receiver answered some questions from the local Twin Cities media. Diggs was asked if he would want to test the free-agent market in 2019 or remain with the Vikings and he quickly made his preference known.
"“I love being here. Those kind of things figure themselves out. I love being here. I love playing for the Vikings.I started here, I’ve (spent) all my time here. I love my teammates. I love my staff. There’s no place I’d rather be.”"
It’s pretty obvious that Diggs has enjoyed his time in Minnesota and wants to continue his NFL career in purple and gold.
Now, he could just be saying all the right things to not ruffle any feathers too, but the receiver did seem to make sure he emphasized his love for the organization in his response. The Vikings are the first team to give him an opportunity in the NFL and Diggs is clearly thankful for that.
Next: Who could be the Vikings' third receiver in 2018?
For anyone who is worried about the receiver hitting free agency in 2019, it doesn’t sound like either he or the team wants that to happen.
