All-time Greatest Minnesota Vikings: No. – Joey Browner
Highly athletic from a young age, Joey Browner participated in several sports, including track and field competitions in high school, before focusing on football at USC. He became their MVP in 1982 and helped lead the team to two bowl games.
His impressive play made him the 19th overall selection in the 1983 NFL Draft, where he was praised for his tackling. Browner played in all 16 games during his rookie year at safety for the franchise.
Browner spent nine seasons in Minnesota before spending his final year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he did rack up some excellent numbers over his career. He notched 37 interceptions, 17 fumble recoveries, and four defensive touchdowns during the 145 games he played.
Accolades came easy for Browner. He earned six Pro Bowl nods, made four All-Pro teams, was named one of the 50 Greatest Vikings. Browner was part of the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team and earned enshrinement in the Vikings Ring of Honor.
