All-time Greatest Minnesota Vikings: No. 6 – Adrian Peterson
Although drafting a running back was far from the team’s priority entering the 2007 NFL Draft, the Vikings couldn’t resist selecting Adrian Peterson out of the University of Oklahoma when he fell to the seventh spot in the first round because of a shoulder injury.
A track and field standout in high school, Peterson’s combination of power and speed made him an incredibly tough player for opposing defenses to tackle. The team soon centered their entire offense around the stellar running game that featured the Palestine, Texas native.
During his 10 seasons with the Vikings, Peterson accumulated a franchise-high 11,747 yards on the ground. He led the NFL in rushing yards for three seasons, even setting the league’s single-game rushing record with 296 yards against the Chargers in 2007.
Seven Pro Bowls, seven All-Pro Team nods, NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and an NFL MVP award highlight the career of a potential Pro Football Hall of Fame running back. Peterson was the face of the Vikings franchise for many years, leaving a lasting impact on the team and its fans.
