Sporting News recently shared their rankings for every 2018 NFL head coach and the guy who currently leads the Minnesota Vikings ended up pretty high on the list.

A number of head coaches have experienced success during their time with the Minnesota Vikings. But the success the Vikings have had with Mike Zimmer as their head coach just seems different for some reason.

Zimmer has been able to take Minnesota from the bottom of the NFL to a Super Bowl contender in just four years. No coach in Vikings team history has actually won more games in their first four seasons than he has.

Given the way Minnesota has been able to perform with Zimmer leading the way, others are starting to take notice at how good of a head coach he truly is.

Sporting News’ Bill Bender recently released his rankings for all 32 current NFL head coaches and Zimmer ended up on the list ranked seventh. Bender elaborated on why he feels the Vikings’ coach is currently one of the best in the league.

"“Zimmer is the highest-ranked coach without a Super Bowl. His no-nonsense approach is a perfect fit in Minnesota, where the Vikings made a run to the NFC championship game last season and appear to be the new team to beat in the NFC North. They should only get better with Kirk Cousins.”"

Zimmer’s success with Minnesota makes it even more mind-boggling that he was passed over by a number of other teams around the NFL for head coaching jobs during his career. However, the Vikings are certainly glad he landed with them in 2014.

With everything that has gone on since he arrived (Adrian Peterson’s suspension, Teddy Bridgewater’s leg almost falling off, moving into a new stadium, Sam Bradford’s knees flaring up again), Minnesota probably would have not won as many games in the last four seasons if not for Zimmer being their head coach.

Bud Grant is still looked at as the greatest Vikings head coach in the history of the franchise. But if Zimmer is ever able to deliver a Super Bowl trophy to Minnesota, he might move into that top spot.
