Former Vikings great lending his pass-rushing tips to another team
By Adam Patrick
Former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen recently spent some time lending his knowledge and helping out the Tennessee Titans’ pass rushers.
During his time with the Minnesota Vikings, defensive end Jared Allen was one of the NFL’s best when it came to bringing down the opposing quarterback. In six seasons with the Vikings, Allen racked up a total of 85.5 sacks, including 22 in 2011.
Given that it was something that he excelled at during his career in the league, the former Minnesota defensive end has a lot of useful knowledge when it comes to rushing the passer. Recently, he shared some of his pass-rushing tidbits with members of the Tennessee Titans.
Since Allen currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee, he reached out to new Titans head coach Mike Vrabel to ask if he could stop by the team’s facilities and help out with their pass rushers. Vrabel was not about to say no to an offer from a four-time All-Pro defensive end, so Allen joined Tennessee during one of their offseason practice sessions this spring.
The former Vikings pass rusher offered tips to the Titans’ defenders on improving their pass-rushing techniques and even sat down to review film with some of them. Tennessee defensive end Morgan Burnett was very appreciative of Allen stopping by and sharing some of his secrets.
Minnesota Vikings
"“He moved to the area and wanted to talk pass rush, so why not from one of the all-time greats? We looked at some film from last year, and he was able to break down things and critique different techniques. I learned a lot from him in 60 minutes.”"
It’s pretty cool that Allen wanted to work with the Titans pass rushers. But you know what would be even cooler? If he helped out with Minnesota’s pass rushers instead.
Okay, it’s understandable that he offered to share his knowledge with Tennessee since he currently resides in Nashville. But Allen working with the franchise that helped make him into a pass-rushing animal instead doesn’t seem like it’s too much to ask.
The former defensive end still has a good relationship with the Vikings, so it doesn’t seem like he was going out of his way to choose the Titans over Minnesota.

It actually sounds more like Allen misses talking football all the time and there just happens to be a team who practices down the road from where he lives.
