According to a recent list compiled by Forbes, the Minnesota Vikings are among 2018’s 50 most valuable sports teams in the world.

A few years ago when the roof of their stadium was collapsing, valuable is probably not a word many would have used to describe the Minnesota Vikings.

Heading into the 2018 season, however, the Vikings are not only among the most valuable teams in the NFL, but their value is among the highest of any professional sports team in the entire world.

According to a recent list constructed by Forbes’ Kurt Badenhausen, Minnesota is 2018’s 33rd-most valuable sports franchise on planet earth. The Vikings are currently valued at $2.4 billion.

Considering Minnesota was purchased by the Wilf family for $600 million back in 2005, the value of the team has gone up quite a bit over the last 13 years. Of course, the Vikings’ owners have also put in the work to make their franchise more valuable.

Minnesota now has a state-of-the-art venue in U.S. Bank Stadium to play their home games at and the team just opened their brand new practice facility, the TCO Performance Center. The franchise has come a long way from the days of the dingy Metrodome and the team’s old practice fields at Winter Park.

In a time where some are trying to convince others that the NFL is currently experiencing a free fall in popularity, the Vikings are one 29 teams from the league featured on Forbes’ list this year. No other sport had more than eight teams make the list.

Although Minnesota ranks as the 33rd-most valuable team this year, the franchise’s value increasing by 400 percent since 2005 clearly illustrates how dominant of a sport the NFL has become over the past decade.
