The Minnesota Vikings franchise got some horrible news as it was announced that offensive line coach Tony Sparano has passed away at the age of 56.

One of the biggest coaching moves the Minnesota Vikings made before the 2016 NFL season was adding established offensive mind Tony Sparano to help fix the problems the team has on the offensive line.

Sparano has enjoyed decades of coaching experience throughout his career, starting as an offensive line coach for New Haven in 1984 and working his way up to being the head coach of the Miami Dolphins in 2008.

Minnesota found some success on their offensive line thanks to Sparano and an influx of talent, but some devastating news is shaking the foundation of the team.

KSTP ABC has reported that Tony Sparano has passed away today, Sunday, July 22, 2018 at his home during the morning hours at the age of 56. The official website of the Vikings shared a statement from team owners Mark and Zygi Wilf about the shocking news:

"“Our hearts go out to Jeanette and the entire Sparano family as we all mourn the loss of Tony. Tony was a passionate and driven individual who cared deeply about his family, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Tony’s presence within the Vikings organization will be deeply missed. We are only thinking of Tony’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We ask that the entire NFL and Vikings family keep the Sparanos in their thoughts.”"

Sparano was no stranger to Mike Zimmer, working with the current Minnesota head coach under Bill Parcells from 2003 to 2008. The respect between the two coaches was apparent, and his passing leaves a hole not only in the coaching staff but in the hearts of everyone tied to the franchise.

The Vikings website also states that he leaves behind his wife Jeanette, two sons (Tony and Andrew), daughter (Ryan Leigh), and four grandchildren.

Minnesota Vikings fans were lucky to have him as part of the team while they had the chance.
