Vikings Training Camp 2018: Previewing the linebackers
By Chris Schad
Notable Reserves:
Ben Gedeon, Eric Wilson, and Kentrell Brothers
Gedeon made his mark last year as a rookie filling the role that Chad Greenway left open with his retirement. His debut was solid if not spectacular as he recorded 25 tackles over the course of the year.
Although the Vikings play a 4-3 defense, they spend more time in a nickel set that leaves Gedeon off the field. His role is unlikely to change heading into 2018.
Brothers has been a special teams ace for the past couple of seasons, but he will miss the first four games of the season due to a PED violation. It will be important for the Vikings to make up his impact on the kick return games before he is eligible to return after the team’s Week 4 matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.
Wilson could be the guy to fill the void that Brothers leaves behind. Although Wilson didn’t see the field defensively last season, he had an impact as a special teamer. With Brothers gone for the first month, it will be imperative for Wilson to take the lead on special teams heading into camp.
