Ryan Quigley faces no competition in camp after completing a regular season where he didn’t have one single touchback. While his yards per punt average may not have been as high as it could have been, much of that is due to short field punts for field position and making sure not to boom a kick into the end zone.

Kevin McDermott is another who faces no competition. For a little bit, the Minnesota Vikings had another long snapper on the roster but ended up releasing him to free up competition at other positions to join the roster.

The interesting part of the special teams roster will be to see if veteran kicker Kai Forbath can hold off draft pick Daniel Carlson, who the team traded up to select in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

For now, this looks like Carlson’s job to lose. However, all it takes is some misses in preseason or a questioning of confidence for a kicker to completely go off the rails. That makes this one of the more fun position battles of training camp and possibly the preseason.
