Minnesota Vikings Training Camp 2018: Day 5 recap

Defense and Special Teams on Day 5:
Brothers feels a little queasy
Kentrell Brothers and Rashod Hill must have eaten at the same restaurant recently because the linebacker was the latest Vikings player to be blowing chunks at camp this year. Brothers was seen vomiting during Minnesota’s practice on Monday and some believe it might have been due to the heat.
Kicking competition still pretty even
After Minnesota selected Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson in the fifth round of last April’s NFL Draft, Kai Forbath’s spot on the Vikings’ 2018 roster was immediately put in jeopardy.
But so far at training camp this year, neither Carlson or Forbath have really stood out as the clear choice for the job. For now, the intense battle remains fairly close.
Sherels not going out without a fight
With this year’s defensive backfield being full of talented young players, some believe Marcus Sherels might not be among those to join the Vikings in the regular season.
Based on his play at camp so far though, Sherels is at least going to make Minnesota’s decision a little tougher. On Monday, the veteran corner intercepted a pass off of Vikings quarterback Kyle Sloter for the second day in a row.
Minnesota Vikings
Sherels has already defied the odds plenty of times in his football career, so it would be pretty dumb to doubt him at this point in time.
Newman confirms 2018 will be it for him
Considering the fact that he turns 40 in September, Vikings’ cornerback Terence Newman knows his time in the NFL is just about up.
With the talent Minnesota has at corner this year in camp, Newman’s task of making the team’s roster looks harder than ever. However, his experience and his relationship with Zimmer does give him a big edge over some of the Vikings’ younger defensive backs.
If Newman does end up on Minnesota’s final roster this year, he confirmed on Monday that the 2018 season will be his last in the NFL.
The Vikings will hold their sixth training camp session on Tuesday, beginning with a walk-thru at 10:30 a.m. CT and practice at 2:45 p.m. CT.
