Before they have their night practice on Saturday, the Minnesota Vikings hit the field on Friday afternoon for their eighth training camp session of 2018.
What will be the Minnesota Vikings identity in 2018? With a brand new quarterback in Kirk Cousins, some believe that the Vikings will shift more to an offense that focuses on the passing game.
Realistically, no matter what the offense does, Minnesota will still remain a team dictated by the performance of their defense as long as Mike Zimmer remains their head coach. Over the past few years, Zimmer has become more involved with the offense, but his primary focus still remains on making sure the defense is one of the best in the NFL.
His approach to winning with defense was even more evident after the Vikings used a first-round selection on UCF cornerback Mike Hughes in last April’s draft. Minnesota finished last season with one of the NFL’s top pass defenses and yet Zimmer still felt like adding another weapon to his arsenal and scooped up Hughes.
On Friday, the Vikings worked on improving their top-ranked defense and more during their eighth session of training camp this year.
