Mike Zimmer reveals his prediction for the Vikings’ 2018 season
By Adam Patrick
Following the team’s night practice at TCO Stadium on Saturday, the Minnesota Vikings head coach left the fans in attendance with some encouraging words.
Despite there being rain in the forecast, a good amount of fans came out on Saturday night to watch the Minnesota Vikings take part in their annual evening training camp practice. For the Vikings, it was the first time the team has practiced under the lights at the brand new TCO Stadium.
After the players were done putting on a show, Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer took a few moments to talk to the crowd. Zimmer did not shy away from expressing how good he feels the Vikings can be this season.
"“You’re going to be really proud of them in February.”"
For those who are unaware, the Super Bowl takes place in February of each year. So one would assume that Zimmer just predicted Minnesota to come out of the upcoming season with the franchise’s first ever Super Bowl victory.
Minnesota Vikings
It may seem like a bold statement for the Vikings coach to make. But based on the amount of talent Minnesota has on their roster this year, the team should be among those contending for a championship in 2018.
For this season, the Vikings return 19 of 22 starters from a 2017 team that made it all the way to the NFC Championship. Of the three new starters Minnesota will have this year, two of these spots have been taken by quarterback Kirk Cousins and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson.
In addition to Cousins and Richardson joining the squad this offseason, the Vikings will also get to enjoy the return of running back Dalvin Cook in 2018. Cook, who tore his ACL last October, has been getting rave reviews in training camp this year and appears to be on track to start in Minnesota’s first game of the regular season.
With their upgrades on offense combined with a top ranked defense in 2018, the Vikings have a very good chance to make Zimmer’s prediction come true.
Minnesota’s head coach also has a crystal ball, so obviously he knows what he’s talking about.
