Case Keenum excited to face the Vikings on Saturday
By Adam Patrick
The former Minnesota Vikings quarterback will be facing his old team in a preseason matchup on Saturday as a member of the Denver Broncos.
It’s a decision made by the Minnesota Vikings that some still question to this very day. Why didn’t the Vikings re-sign Case Keenum?
After helping lead Minnesota to a 13-3 record last season, Keenum was not brought back to the team this year. Instead, the Vikings went out and gave $84 million to free-agent Kirk Cousins to be their new quarterback.
With Minnesota going in a different direction, Keenum ended up with the Denver Broncos this offseason. A team, unlike the Vikings, that has the confidence in the veteran signal caller to be their starter for 2018.
Of course, as fate would have it, Keenum’s first preseason matchup in a Broncos’ uniform will be against Minnesota on Saturday. It’s only an exhibition game, but the quarterback is still excited to go against his former team.
Minnesota Vikings
Keenum was recently interviewed on NFL Network and was asked if it will be weird to face his old team on Saturday.
"“No, it’s not going to be weird. I’m just going to see if Diggs will maybe take me out to dinner. I love all those guys over there. So it’ll be nice to have them in here and play those guys on Saturday.”"
Since it will be the first preseason game for both teams, Keenum likely won’t see the field for very long. But when he is actually under center on Saturday, he will be facing a Vikings defense that he practiced against many times in 2017.
Who will have the advantage? Will Keenum have any tricks up his sleeve or will Minnesota’s defense make their front office look smart for not retaining the quarterback this offseason?
Neither of these questions will likely be answered since it is just a preseason matchup. But it will still be fun to watch.
