How will the offensive line fare?
If there is one unit that has thrown cold water on the optimism surrounding the Vikings’ season, it’s been the offensive line.
Minnesota general manager Rick Spielman only made modest moves this offseason to help improve the weakest link on the roster and that decision is already being questioned with the announcement that Nick Easton will miss the 2018 season after needing neck surgery.
Along with Easton, Pat Elflein (shoulder, ankle) and Mike Remmers (ankle) are also not expected to play on Saturday, meaning that several of the players behind them will have a chance to ease Vikings fans fears.
One of the biggest names to watch in the trenches will be guard Tom Compton. The Rosemount, Minnesota native has an established rapport with Kirk Cousins dating back to their time with the Washington Redskins. Compton will likely be the first guy given a crack at replacing Easton in the starting lineup.
On the other side will be Danny Isidora. He will not only have an opportunity to break in at left guard, but he should get a chance at right guard too with Remmers currently being sidelined.
Second-round pick Brian O’Neill and second-year tackle Aviante Collins will also be intriguing to watch as the Vikings need to prove they can handle some adversity.
If Zimmer’s press conference on Thursday was any indication, he seems to have full confidence in the guys that will suit up on Saturday.
"“I know everybody’s nervous about out offensive line, but I like the mentality of those guys. I like how they work. I’m around them quite a bit. They’re going to figure out a way to get it done.”"
