6 pleasant surprises at Vikings training camp this year
By Adam Patrick
Brandon Zylstra – WR
Throughout the offseason, Zylstra was touted as “The Next Adam Thielen”. A number of people couldn’t help but roll their eyes at the comparison given how successful Thielen has become in Minnesota.
So far though, Zylstra appears to at least be on the right track to earn a spot on the Vikings’ 2018 roster with Thielen.
The former CFL receiver has had numerous moments in training camp this year that have resulted in applause from the Minnesota fans in attendance. Especially during the team’s recent night practice.
So far during this year’s camp, Zylstra has received praise from Mike Zimmer, offensive coordinator John DeFilippo, and a number of Vikings players. In addition to his receiving abilities, Minnesota’s coaches rave about Zylstra’s ability to contribute on special teams as well.
Finding other ways to get on the field may be the young receiver’s ticket to making the Vikings’ final roster this year. Thielen first earned playing time with Minnesota by contributing on special teams early in his career and Zylstra would just be fitting the narrative if he did so as well.
