Press conferences can bring out a fun and interesting side of Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, who may have a new catchphrase for reporters.
Being a head coach in the NFL can be a huge challenge. Not only does a team like the Minnesota Vikings rely on that individual to shape a team into a Super Bowl contender, but they also have to handle a lot of the media following games and practices.
For a guy like Mike Zimmer, this means there are quite a few opportunities to get blunt and honest sound bytes or quotes that beat reporters and team sources and bring to their articles and social media accounts to drum up interaction from fans.
However, one thing Zimmer seems to have a low tolerance for is dancing around a topic. Fans saw this in full effect when the coach was asked about possibly bringing in offensive lineman Richie Incognito following some injuries to the team and Incognito saying the team has reached out to him and shown interest.
Zimmer’s reply according to 1500 ESPN’s Courtney Cronin on Twitter was straight to the point:
"“No interest and totally false. Tweet that.”"
But that wasn’t the last fans would hear of this new ‘Tweet that” phrase.
The offensive line continued to be a topic of discussion during training camp media sessions and ESPN shared a quote from Zimmer after being asked about what the team is looking to do after losing Nick Easton for what will likely be the entire season.
"“I know everybody’s nervous about our offensive line but I like the mentality of those guys. I like how they work. I’m around them quite a bit. They’re going to figure out a way to get it done. Calm is the new … Tweet that. It’s my new saying. We’re going to get some [‘Tweet that’] on the Mike Zimmer Foundation T-shirts. Tweet that.”"
Of course, there are some great shirts on the Mike Zimmer Foundation website. Here is a list of some of the great quotes and phrases already on available shirts:
- Bring it home
- I’m with Zim
- Zim Reapers
- Don’t tell me about the labor, just show me the baby
- What would Zim do?
- Some wish for it. Others work for it.
- and several more
Adding a shirt that with Mike Zimmer’s face and the words “Tweet that!” would be pretty awesome, especially for fans who are regular viewers of his press conferences when he has to handle some of the ridiculous questions posed by the media.
Would you buy a shirt from the Mike Zimmer Foundation that said “Tweet that!” or is there a different shirt on the site that you believe Minnesota Vikings would want? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
UPDATE: The shirt is already available! While it doesn’t have Zimmer’s face, the ‘Tweet that’ is VERY clear! Buy it HERE!
