NFL Media’s Chris Wesseling recently discussed some of the expectations surrounding the 2018 Vikings on the latest episode of the Around The NFL podcast.
It’s been quite awhile since the optimism level surrounding the Minnesota Vikings was as high as it currently is for the team heading into the 2018 season.
More and more people who cover the NFL are beginning to realize just how talented the Vikings’ roster is this year and the potential they have. And after the team’s recent preseason win over the Denver Broncos, the expectations for Minnesota are only continuing to trend upward.
Some who cover the league even believe that the Vikings have what it takes in 2018 to end the season with the Vince Lombardi trophy raised in the air surrounded by a sea of purple and gold confetti. That’s right, people actually believe this Minnesota team has what it takes to win a Super Bowl this year.
One of those believers is NFL Media’s Chris Wesseling, who recently expressed his feelings about the Vikings’ chances at a championship this season on the Around The NFL podcast.
Minnesota Vikings
"“If you are inclined to believe that the Minnesota Vikings are absolutely loaded, this game (against the Broncos) bolsters that opinion. Dalvin Cook told (NFL Media’s) Stacey Dales last week, ‘it’s special around here. You can feel it in the air, I’m just happy to be a part of it.’To me, it’s Super Bowl or bust around that team this year.”"
Minnesota did look impressive in their preseason win over Denver, especially their first-team offense and defense. But at the same time, it was just an exhibition game and the expectations for the Vikings in 2018 should not see a dramatic increase due to the results of a meaningless matchup.
Most likely, Wesseling already had some championship thoughts about Minnesota for this season and the team’s preseason victory over the Broncos just helped those thoughts become a little more believable.
Some Vikings fans may not like to admit it, but the 2018 season is going to be a disappointment if the team fails to reach the Super Bowl.
No one will ever hear a Minnesota coach or player make any sort of championship predictions for this year. But words are not really necessary because the Vikings’ actions this offseason already speaks volumes about the lofty goals this team has for 2018.
