Mike Hughes gets his hands on an interception

One of the top headlines out of Vikings training camp this year has been the ultra-impressive play of rookie cornerback Mike Hughes.

Under head coach Mike Zimmer, Minnesota’s rookie defenders are not known for seeing the field much during their first NFL season (especially defensive backs). But Hughes is doing everything he can during practice this year to force the Vikings to keep him off the bench in 2018.

This Saturday, Minnesota will be going up against Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles. He’s not exactly a guy known for avoiding turnovers and if this week’s joint practices were any indication, Bortles throwing an interception against the Vikings has a pretty good shot at happening.

When that inevitable interception does happen on Saturday, it will end up in the hands of Hughes. Minnesota’s rookie corner is already becoming known for his ability to stay close to his receiver in coverage and one slightly missed target by Bortles will result in Hughes’ first pick of the preseason.
