Adrian Peterson to meet with the Redskins on Monday
By Adam Patrick
The former Minnesota Vikings running back will reportedly meet with the Washington Redskins on Monday about a possible role with the team in 2018.
On the field, Adrian Peterson will always be regarded as one of the greatest running backs to ever put on a Minnesota Vikings uniform.
Peterson is the Vikings’ all-time leader in career rushing yards (11,747), career rushing attempts (2,418), and career rushing touchdowns (97). He also holds numerous other franchise records for Minnesota including most rushing yards in a single season (2,097), most rushing touchdowns in a single season (18), and most rushing yards in a single game (296).
A seven-time Pro Bowler, four-time First-Team All-Pro, and NFL MVP in 2012, Peterson is destined to be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame one day. But for now, the former Vikings running back is not looking to retire anytime soon.
Minnesota Vikings
Peterson, who spent last season with the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals, will reportedly meet with the Washington Redskins on Monday according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. The former Minnesota running back is also in, “very good shape,” right now according to Garafolo.
Desperation mode is already kicking in for the Redskins, who are are dealing with a ton of injuries to their offensive backfield just two weeks into the 2018 preseason. Washington has already lost rookie running back Derrius Guice for the entire regular season because of a torn ACL and several other backs on their current roster are also dealing with injuries.
Despite only rushing for 601 yards and appearing in just 13 games over the last two seasons, Peterson clearly thinks he can still be a valuable asset to some team in the league this year.
Signing with the Redskins though will likely depend on what sort of role the former Minnesota running back has in mind for himself.
If Peterson still believes he should be a starter in the NFL today, then Washington is likely going to say no thanks. But if he is actually willing to sacrifice playing time for a spot on a roster, then it’s possible that the running back could open up the 2018 season as a member of the Redskins.
