Preseason Week 3 Ups and Downs: Minnesota Vikings vs. Seahawks
By Adam Carlson
Overall impression vs Seattle
There were plenty of reasons to be both disappointed and impressed with the Minnesota Vikings third game of the preseason, but it can’t be argued that it left a positive impression thanks to the way the game ended.
The first team defense struggled against the run and kicker Daniel Carlson really struggled during this game, missing two attempts from 42 yards each. Plus, Trevor Siemian didn’t help his case one bit for earning the backup quarterback role for anything other than his previous starting experience.
But there were positives as well. Treadwell, Diggs, Thielen, and Rudolph all got involved and C.J. Ham showed he is a much more capable pass catcher to go along with his solid blocking ability. Also, while there were times the defense struggled, they were able to bend but not break, keeping the score low enough for the team to still have a chance.
The biggest question after this game is still the offensive line. While the formation on the field for this game likely won’t be the one blocking for Kirk Cousins when the regular season rolls around, odds are that the former Redskins passer won’t last long if he takes a beating from opposing defenses. It’s time to be aware of this issue, but likely not the time to panic unless Pat Elflein is unable to return.
As a whole, this was a fun game to watch with some interesting players stepping up. While it would have been great to see better execution from the first team offense as well as special teams, the Minnesota Vikings seem ready for the regular season.
However, before the regular season starts, the Vikings will be facing off against the Tennessee Titans on Thursday, August 30th in a game that will feature many players fighting for their NFL careers. Don’t miss that game!
