Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen ended up leaving practice after hurting his ankle, but has time to heal before the regular season begins.

Adam Thielen has emerged as a top target in the Minnesota Vikings passing offense over the years. His reliable hands, solid route running, and drive to succeed have made him one of the best pass catchers in the league.

Last season, he became the first Vikings wide receiver to have over 1,000 yards as a pass catcher since 2009, and he will likely continue that success with the team for many years to come opposite Stefon Diggs.

However, some concerning news broke from practice on Tuesday, August 28th when Thielen reported was forced to leave practice following an injury.

Star Tribune beat writer Ben Goessling reported the news on his official Twitter account, explaining what he saw happen:

1500 ESPN’s Courtney Cronin also posted on Twitter that it appeared to be his left ankle and added that Mike Hughes joined his teammates at practice to add some positivity to the tweet.

There is quite a bit of good news that comes with this injury. Adam Thielen being able to walk off the field under his own power is a great sign that the injury isn’t very severe. While Thielen is very tough, fans would be far more concerned if he needed assistance from teammates or a cart to exit the field of play.

Plus, Thielen was unlikely to play in the Vikings preseason finale against Tennessee anyway since the starters will likely rest. This means that he will be able to take nearly two weeks to recover before the team has their regular season opener against the San Francisco 49ers.

While the severity of the reported turned ankle has yet to be reported, fans shouldn’t jump to conclusions. The most likely scenario is that he takes some time away from practice to recover until back to 100 percent. For now, that should be the thought unless other news is revealed.

Thielen and Diggs are the heart and soul of the Vikings receiving grouping, with players like Laquon Treadwell, Kendall Wright, Chad Beebe, Brandon Zylstra, and others competing for spots on the team’s roster as well as on the depth chart.

Hopefully, Adam Thielen has a full and speedy recovery so he can join the Minnesota Vikings as soon as possible to prepare for Week 1 of the NFL regular season against the San Francisco 49ers.
