4 bubble players that deserve a spot on the Vikings’ 2018 roster
By Adam Patrick
Roc Thomas – RB
He did not play last week against the Seahawks (no one is really sure why), but Thomas looked impressive during the Vikings’ first two preseason games of the year when he was actually on the field.
In two exhibition games with Minnesota, the undrafted rookie running back has carried the ball 13 times for 54 yards and caught five passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns. During his time on the field, Thomas has showcased his breakaway speed, his patience to wait for his blockers, and the ability to make defenders miss to gain extra yards.
At this point, it seems like the Vikings are leaning towards keeping Mike Boone as the team’s third running back for the regular season. However, Boone and Thomas will get one last shot to impress Minnesota as both are expected to play in the team’s preseason finale on Thursday.
Whoever the Vikings go with, they will probably try and add the other to their practice squad. But with the way both rookie running backs have played this preseason, either of them making it through waivers without being claimed on Saturday doesn’t seem very likely.
