Daniel Carlson makes all of his field goal attempts

Last week, my predictions were less than stellar, so this week (like some of the Vikings players) I’m looking to bounce back and get back on track.

This week will feature some excellent wide receiver play from Chad Beebe and Jake Wieneke as they attempt to prove they are worthy of spots on the team’s 53-man roster. However, they won’t get much help from quarterback Trevor Siemian, who will once again put forth a disappointing performance even though he won’t throw an interception.

Another group to watch on Thursday are the running backs. Roc Thomas and Mike Boone will both put forth solid performances again, making the decision even tougher for Minnesota on this year’s cut-down day. Each rusher will net over 35 yards on the night.

Defensively, expect linebacker Eric Wilson to shine. With so much attention being placed on the Vikings’ offense, the excellent performance of Wilson this preseason has snuck through the cracks. He should get the start and once again provide solid tackling, decent coverage, and a pass rush.

Defensive ends Tashawn Bower and Stephen Weatherly will each record a sack during the game as well, showcasing the excellent depth on the Minnesota defensive line. The same can be said for Jaleel Johnson, who will continue to show improvement in a nose tackle role.

The biggest improvement will be the kicking. Last week, Daniel Carlson missed two 42-yard field goals, but made his lone extra point try. However, this week he will bounce back and knock through a pair of field goals, both from more than 30 yards out.

In the end, the Vikings should be able to defeat the Tennessee Titans on the road and finish their preseason with a 3-1 record. However, it will be a competitive game, always staying within two scores.
