Holton Hill makes his case for a roster spot
Following the 2018 NFL Draft, the Vikings signed a number of talented undrafted rookies including Mike Boone, Roc Thomas, and Jeff Badet. But none of these signings were as notable as Minnesota adding former Texas cornerback Holton Hill to their roster.
Due to some questionable decisions in college, Hill was not drafted this year. However, some regarded his talent to be at a first-round level.
The Vikings showed interest in Hill before this year’s draft and Minnesota head coach Mike Zimmer clearly sees the potential the kid has in the NFL if he is able to keep his head on straight.
So far this preseason, the rookie corner has not really stood out from the rest of his teammates on defense. It’s pretty clear that Hill is still adjusting to the speed of the NFL and getting used to what he can and can’t do as a defensive back at the pro level.
But on Thursday, Minnesota’s rookie corner should be able to showcase some of the impressive skills that many have been hearing about this offseason. Hill should have a number of opportunities to make plays against the Titans, who will likely be rolling backup quarterbacks Blaine Gabbert and rookie Luke Falk out on the field.
If the Vikings’ young corner can pick off a pass or make a few nice plays in coverage on Thursday, it might be just enough to get him on the team’s regular season roster.
