Kyle Sloter will outplay Trevor Siemian… again

Out of all of the Vikings who have taken the field during the preseason, Kyle Sloter may be mounting the most impressive performance of them all.

The second-year quarterback out of Northern Colorado is challenging Tashawn Bower for the Mr. August moniker after following up his strong performance with the Denver Broncos last year by going 30-for-41 (73.1 percent completion rate) with three touchdowns this preseason (including the game-winning touchdown to Chad Beebe at the end of last week’s game).

On the flip-side, Trevor Siemian has been bad. Some of the blame can be pinned on the lack of depth on the offensive line, but he’s been off target ever since he threw a purple No. 3 jersey on (say what you want there).

If you take out Siemian’s performance against Denver (which was buoyed by two screen passes to Roc Thomas), he has gone 9-for-18 (50 percent completion rate) with just 49 yards to show for it. Last week against Seattle, he had more completions (four) than passing yards (three). Woof.

Mike ZImmer has already come out and said that there will be no change in the quarterback pecking order, but another strong performance by Sloter could possibly change his mind. And there’s a good chance that could take place against the Titans on Thursday.
