Breaking down the Minnesota Vikings 53-man roster for the 2018 season
By Adam Carlson
Cornerbacks (6)
Retired: Terence Newman
Released: Craig James, Trevon Mathis, Horace Richardson, Jack Tocho
The combination of Rhodes and Waynes has provided solid coverage with a blend of physicality, finesse, and speed that can frustrate opposing receivers…especially with the help of the team’s dominating pass rush.
Rookies Hughes and Hill will grow and develop this season, in hopes of becoming reliable players on a long-term basis. However, with one being a first-round pick and the other being an undrafted free agent, expectations for the two vary wildly.
Once again, Sherels proves to be the cat with nine lives, always seeming to find a way to stick on the team’s roster through his solid special teams play. On the other hand, taking Alexander out of nickel and moving him outside could help to showcase his abilities much better.
The big shock of the day for the Minnesota Vikings cornerbacks came with the retirement of Newman, who was expected to be an on-field mentor for nearly everyone on the field. The good news is that although he won’t be suiting up, the team will still have access to his knowledge in a coaching capacity.
