Minnesota Vikings add nine players to 2018 practice squad
By Adam Patrick
After a number of players cleared waivers on Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings filled nine spots on their 2018 practice squad.
For those who were saddened by some of the roster moves made by the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday, perhaps some of the team’s decisions on Sunday will help alleviate some of that sorrow.
After the deadline passed on Sunday for teams to claim players on waivers, the Vikings begun the construction of their 2018 practice squad. Minnesota added nine guys to this year’s group and all of them were part of the team’s regular season roster trimming on Saturday.
The Vikings officially announced the signing of the following players to this season’s practice squad.
- Jeff Badet – WR
- Chad Beebe – WR
- Reshard Cliett – LB
- Curtis Cothran – DT
- Garret Dooley – LB
- Cornelius Edison – C
- Colby Gossett – G
- Storm Norton – T
- Jack Tocho – S
NFL rules allow for a maximum of 10 players for each team’s practice squad, so it’s possible that Minnesota could add someone else to the unit within the next few days.
The Vikings have to be excited about being able to keep Beebe this year. During the preseason, the undrafted rookie receiver had a number of impressive moments on offense and special teams. Some even believed he had a chance at making Minnesota’s final 2018 roster.
Edison was another player that had a shot at making the Vikings’ final 53 this year. However, his roster spot became expendable after Minnesota’s recent trade for Brett Jones.
Unfortunately, the Vikings did lose out on adding defensive lineman Ifeadi Odenigbo to their practice squad this year. Odenigbo was claimed off of waivers by the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
Overall though, Minnesota should be happy with the guys on this year’s practice squad. They have a bunch of talented players with the potential to contribute in the very near future.
