The Minnesota Vikings will open up the 2018 NFL season on Sunday inside U.S. Bank Stadium when they take on the San Francisco 49ers.

Meaningful football is final here for the Minnesota Vikings and their first test of the 2018 season will be against a San Francisco 49ers team with a ton of hype surrounding them.

Rightfully so though, as the 49ers ended last year with by coming out with a win in each of their final five games. While the toughness of their opponents was not elite by any means, stringing together five straight victories in the NFL is still a difficult task to accomplish.

Much of San Francisco’s late-season success in 2017 was due to the team inserting quarterback Jimmy Gaoppolo into the starting lineup. Despite only appearing in six games last year, Garoppolo still ended up leading all 49ers passers in yards, touchdowns, and completion percentage.

Stopping the San Francisco quarterback will be high on the list of priorities for the Vikings’ defense on Sunday. But with 10 of their 11 starters from a top ranked unit in 2017 returning for this season, Minnesota’s defense should be able to make things difficult for Garoppolo and the 49ers this week.

The matchup figures to be one of the league’s most entertaining of the weekend and could end up providing viewers with many memorable moments.
