The former first-round receiver reportedly worked out for the Minnesota Vikings as they look to find depth beyond their top three pass-catchers.

The Minnesota Vikings are continuing the process of fine-tuning their roster. On Friday, the next step was to do some homework by bringing former Baltimore Ravens receiver Breshad Perriman (along with five other free agents) according to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.

While there are plenty of names on that list, Perriman’s is the one that stands out the most. He was a first round pick (26th overall) by the Ravens in the 2015 NFL Draft thanks to his game-breaking speed showcased at the University of Central Florida.

Once in the NFL, however, Perriman had trouble staying on the field due to injuries. He missed the entire 2015 season due to a PCL tear and suffered a partially torn ACL the following June in minicamp.

Although largely healthy outside of a hamstring injury and concussion last season, Perriman wasn’t effective when on the field for the Ravens. In two healthy seasons with Baltimore, Perriman caught 43 balls for 576 yards and three touchdowns. In 2017, he caught just 10 of 33 targets for 77 yards.

The reason for bringing in Perriman could be to bolster a lower half of the depth chart that lacks experience outside of Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen and Laquon Treadwell. The addition of Perriman could represent an upgrade over fresher faces such as Brandon Zylstra and Stacy Coley.

If healthy, Perriman could add some extra speed on the back half of the receiver depth chart and add another deep threat for defenses to keep track of. However, with his history, that’s a big if.
