4. Carlson’s 48-yard field goal

Following their decision to release Kai Forbath back in August, rookie Daniel Carlson decided to thank the Vikings for making him their starting kicker by going out and missing two field goal attempts in the team’s Week 3 preseason matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

That was the preseason though and that was the time for Carlson to work out the kinks and get all of his misses out of the way. Well, at least Minnesota is hoping for that to be the case.

On Sunday against the 49ers, the rookie kicker was given the chance to make a field goal for the Vikings that would actually count.

Facing a 4th and 6 from the San Francisco 30-yard line, Minnesota sent Carlson out to attempt a 48-yard field goal. The rookie lined up, the Vikings snapped the ball, and the kick sailed through the uprights for three points.

The kick wasn’t right down the middle, but Minnesota has to be satisfied with Carlson coming out and being able to put points on the board. The Vikings’ rookie kicker also made all three of his extra point attempts this week and all five of his kickoffs resulted in touchbacks.

Carlson’s confidence should at least be a little higher as Minnesota heads into Week 2
