The Good Stuff

  1. Those defensive tackles. In the first series alone, Sheldon Richardson got a sack on Aaron Rodgers and Linval Joseph stopped a running back on third down by catching him from behind somehow. These guys are always creating problems and could be a big reason for Minnesota to succeed this year.
  2. Flashing on the returns. Mike Hughes looked good when bringing the ball out on kickoff returns. His speed and vision were on display as he nearly brought his first return of the day back to the house. Between him and Sherels, the Vikings have some good special teams weapons!
  3. Continuing to develop. As Danielle Hunter continues to gain experience as a pass rusher, he’s adding more things to his repertoire. He’s been using his hands extremely well to shed blockers when in the past he relied more on speed, athleticism, power, and agility to get the job done.
  4. Defensive line depth. Stephen Weatherly, David Parry, and others were able to step in and make some big plays even when the usual starters needed a little rest. Based on their production, Zimmer’s defense should always have a consistent threat to disrupt an offense on any play.
  5. Shouldering the load. Kirk Cousins did a lot this game, throwing for 425 yards and four touchdowns with only one interception that bounced off the hands of the receiver first. He looked like a quarterback who can be trusted to keep the Vikings competitive for the next three years despite the questionable protection from the offensive line at times.
