5. Bailey lowers everyone’s blood pressure

During his time with the team, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer sure has had a wonderful time with the kickers that have been on his roster. Of course, he should know that kickers and Minnesota go together like fish and ice cream.

Since the Vikings hired him in 2014, Zimmer has had to witness Blair Walsh shank an easy game-winning field goal in a playoff game, Kai Forbath miss a total of 11 kicks in 2017, and Daniel Carlson crumble under pressure and miss three field goals during Minnesota’s tie with the Packers back in Week 2.

After Carlson’s misses in Green Bay cost the Vikings a win, Zimmer said adios and Minnesota decided to release the rookie kicker before their Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills. As his replacement, the Vikings went out and signed veteran Dan Bailey.

Prior to joining Minnesota this year, Bailey spent seven seasons with the Dallas Cowboys where he made 88.3 percent of his field goal attempts (the second-highest career percentage in NFL history).

He did not get the chance to try any field goals or extra points in Week 3. But during the Vikings’ Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, Bailey was able to show Zimmer what a real NFL kicker can do.

Against the Rams, Minnesota’s new place kicker made both of his extra point attempts and all three of his field goal tries.

Knock on the nearest piece of wood you can find because the Vikings may not actually have to worry about their kicker for the rest of the 2018 season.
