Adam Thielen climbing the ranks of best all-time Vikings pass catchers
By Adam Carlson
There have been some great pass catchers in Minnesota Vikings history, and Adam Thielen is climbing up the ranks of the all-time greatest receivers.
When talking about the greatest pass catchers in the history of the Minnesota Vikings franchise, some great names should immediately come to mind, such as Pro Football Hall of Fame members Cris Carter and Randy Moss, but Adam Thielen in on pace to be mentioned among the all-time greats.
It’s hard to ignore what Adam Thielen has accomplished since exploding onto the scene during the 2016 NFL season, becoming the Vikings first 1,000-yard receiver since Sidney Rice in 2017 and becoming a favorite target of multiple quarterbacks including Sam Bradford, Case Keenum, and now Kirk Cousins.
Heading into Week 6 of the 2018 NFL season, Thielen sits at 3113 receiving yards. In Week 5, he quietly passed running back Chuck Foreman and wide receiver Gene Washington to become 14th on the list of all-time leading receivers for Minnesota.
But Thielen is nowhere near done yet. The 28-year-old wide receiver has many years left on his career and will continue to climb that list as he accumulates yards. And since he’s gaining over 100 each game this season, his ascent could come quickly.
In fact, there is a good chance Adam Thielen could be 12th on the list following the game against the Cardinals. As the numbers currently stand, he sits 64 yards behind fullback Bill Brown and 109 yards behind wide receiver Paul Flatley, neither of which is out of the question for Thielen to acquire on Sunday, Oct. 14.
If Thielen can average 100 yards per game for the rest of the season, he could climb all the way up to 8th on the list, that is unless tight end Kyle Rudolph who currently sits in 9th place with 3382 yards challenges him for the spot.
Adam Thielen’s ascension of the all-time Minnesota Vikings receivers list will be interesting to watch during the 2018 NFL season. Although he may never catch Randy Moss at 9,316 yards or Cris Carter at 12,383 yards, he will definitely have the opportunity to be among the greatest pass catchers in franchise history.
