A Minnesota Vikings legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame player will be sounding the Gjallarhorn on Sunday before the game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Before each home game. the Minnesota Vikings celebrate an individual or group of individuals by having them sound the Gjallarhorn. Not only is it a huge honor for those who are chosen but it can be a massive attraction for fans in attendance.

Before the game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Oct. 14, Vikings legend and Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive lineman Chris Doleman will be the one doing the honors with the Gjallarhorn according to the team Twitter account.

Not only is this special because the former first-round draft pick of Minnesota in 1985 was an eight-time Pro Bowl and five-time All-Pro player, but because he is inspiring many in their fight against cancer.

Doleman was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a type of malignant brain tumor which is treatable but currently incurable. Despite this condition, Doleman has been active with fans, attending autograph sessions and being open with his cancer treatments.

Glioblastoma made headlines recently when Senator John McCain was revealed to have the condition and underwent treatment to live until 81 years old. However, with advances in technology and treatments, there is hope Doleman will continue his fight for many, many years.

During his time with the Vikings, Doleman accumulated 96.5 sacks in 154 games played, landing at second on the list of the franchise’s all-time leaders behind fellow Hall of Fame defensive lineman John Randle. The closest active player to him on the list is Everson Griffen, who is sitting at 62 sacks during this Minnesota career.
