The Rhodes get back to being closed down

After earning a First-Team All-Pro selection last year, this season has not been as impressive for Vikings cornerback Xavier Rhodes.

Surprisingly, Rhodes’ 29 targets in coverage are actually the most of any player on Minnesota’s defense this year. He’s allowed 69 percent of these passes to be caught and his coverage is averaging just over 11 yards per reception.

Not horrible numbers, but not the type of performance the Vikings have become accustomed to from their top corner over the last few seasons.

Rhodes has also been penalized four times this year already, but three of these calls came in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Rams.

On Sunday, the Vikings veteran corner will likely be tasked with following Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald all over the field. In two career matchups against each other, Rhodes has been able to keep Fitzgerald out of the end zone and hold the receiver to under 65 yards.

Expect this Sunday’s showdown between the two top-tier players to produce similar results.
