The Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets aren’t teams who face off very often, but when they did play in 2014, it was an entertaining overtime thriller.

The Minnesota Vikings (3-2-1) will be heading to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ to face the New York Jets (3-3) on Sunday. Both teams are currently on a two-game winning streak and are hoping to keep rolling in Week 7.

The last time these two teams faced each other was in 2014 at TCF Bank Stadium (the Vikings temporary home that season and the following season).

Rookie Teddy Bridgewater went 19/27 for 309 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Matt Asiata rushed for 54 yards on 19 carries. Charles Johnson had four receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown. Jarius Wright had four receptions for 123 yards and a game winning 87-yard touchdown to lead the Vikings to a 30-24 overtime victory over the Jets.  Linebacker Gerald Hodges returned an interception 27 yards for a touchdown.

Yes, that is current Vikings defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson chasing Wright in the picture. Richardson recorded seven tackles and three sacks (one resulted in a safety).

“We ran it a couple other times,” Wright said via ESPN. “I thought in my head there was a chance to score.”

Geno Smith went 18/29 for 254 yards, one touchdown and one interception for the Jets. He also rushed for 33 yards on six carries. Chris Ivory rushed for 73 yards on 16 carries. Minnesota native Eric Decker had six receptions for 89 yards. Former Viking Percy Harvin had six receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown.  He also returned a kick 47 yards. He received boos from the crowd throughout the game.

He left the game late in the 4th quarter with an ankle injury.

"“I wanted to be in that battle with my guys to finish this thing out. But I couldn’t go,” said Harvin, who left on crutches according to ESPN.com."

Harvin was drafted 22nd overall by the Vikings in 2009 out of Florida.

Before forcing his way out of Minnesota following the 2012 season, he was an electrifying player in his four seasons with the Vikings. He was a threat not just as a wide receiver, but also as a runner out of the backfield and as a returner. He also played a critical role in helping the Vikings go 12-4 and reach the NFC Championship game in his rookie season.

He was named the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year and made it to the Pro Bowl that season.

In 54 career games (43 starts) with the Vikings, Harvin caught 280 passes for 3,302 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also rushed for four touchdowns and returned five kicks for touchdowns.

The Vikings improved to 6-7 with the win and finished the season at 7-9 in Mike Zimmer’s first season as the team’s head coach. They were 5-10-1 the year before with Leslie Frazier.

The Jets fell to 2-11 with the loss and finished the season at 4-12. Head coach Rex Ryan was fired after the season.

The New York Jets lead the all-time series against the Minnesota Vikings 8-2.
