The Minnesota Vikings moved on from their rookie kicker after Week 2 this season but the Oakland Raiders are taking a shot on the young man.

Now that the Minnesota Vikings have veteran Dan Bailey to perform their kicking duties, fans have quickly moved past the horrible memories of missed field goals during the preseason and first two weeks of the regular season

Released after Week 2, Daniel Carlson was a fifth-round draft pick of the Vikings and the team used two sixth-round selections to trade up and get what they thought was going to be their kicker of the future.

During Carlson’s two games with Minnesota, he converted only one of his four field goal attempts, missing all three against the Green Bay Packers including a chip shot in overtime which could have won the game.

It turns out that Carlson is going to get another shot this season, only it won’t be with Minnesota.

It is being reported by multiple news outlets including NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Mercury News beat writer Matt Schneidman that the Oakland Raiders are taking a chance on the young man.

The Raiders have moved on from Matthew McCrane, who went five-for-nine in just three games with Oakland and are hoping for a long-term answer in the 23-year-old Carlson for many years to come.

The Raiders are actually going on their third kicker of the season, having placed Giorgio Tavecchio on injured reserve. Plus, Oakland’s undrafted free agent kicker Eddie Pinero went on injured reserve before the start of the season due to a hip injury.

It’s great to see rookie kicker Daniel Carlson getting another shot in the NFL. Hopefully, he can find a home with the Oakland Raiders and succeed in the league after his rocky start with the Minnesota Vikings.
