Round 7: D’Cota Dixon, safety – Wisconsin

There’s no telling if Minnesota will be able to retain safety George Iloka and depth will still be needed to compete with Jayron Kearse and Anthony Harris to push them to be their absolute best next season.

Dixon has been impressive with Wisconsin and the redshirt senior continues to improve each year. In his last 31 games played, he has racked up 143 total tackles with 7.5 of those being for a loss and 2.5 being sacks.

Add in 5 interceptions and 9 total pass defenses over those three years, and you’ve got a talented young player who might be solid enough to watch develop as a practice squad guy or potential backup.

Mike Zimmer’s love for defensive backs is pretty obvious and while he doesn’t have the size that some of his other safeties have to offer, he might just be a quality player to invest in now and watch develop.

Other options for seventh-round selections:

  • Jawaan Taylor, offensive tackle – Florida
  • Jalen Young, safety – Florida Atlantic
