Round 6: Kyle Kempt, quarterback – Iowa State

Kirk Cousins hasn’t missed a game since becoming a full-time NFL starter during the 2015 NFL season. However, the team still needs talent behind him. Kyle Sloter looks promising but Trevor Siemian hasn’t looked like a quality backup at all.

Plus, even if Siemian does return, Kempt could be a great camp body to take the place of Peter Pujas from last year (who is moving on to the Alliance of American Football) and possibly be a practice squad arm.

Kempt will be a late selection because of nagging injuries, especially a knee ailment that has kept him out for most of his 2018 campaign with Iowa State. However, when he’s on the field, he’s quite good!

He completed 178 of his 266 passes in college so far, accumulating 1,928 yards and 15 touchdowns to go with his three interceptions. His passing efficiency rating of 144.2 should say a lot about his ability when healthy.

Other options for sixth-round selections:

  • Jahlani Tavai, LB – Hawaii
  • Walter Palmore, DT – Missouri
