Round 6: Mook Reynolds, CB – Virginia Tech

Last year’s first-round selection Mike Hughes should be back to work with Xavier Rhodes, Mackensie Alexander, and Holton Hill, but the question of whether or not Minnesota will be able to pay the fifth-year option on Trae Waynes has yet to be seen.

Even if they are able to bring Waynes back, adding another cornerback to compete with Marcus Sherels for the fifth spot would be smart for Minnesota. Assuming they can bring number 26 back, Reynolds might be a good choice.

The Vikings will love that he’s a physical player. Add to that his 6-foot, 191-pound frame and you’ve got a nice piece of clay for Mike Zimmer to sculpt into a player to fill several needs or at least be solid depth.

In 34 games, Reynolds accumulated 165 total tackles (22.5 for a loss), eight pass defenses, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries. With the biggest knock on him being a lack of turnovers, the pressure from the Vikings front four should help to change that.

Other options for sixth-round selections:

  • Anthony Nelson, edge – Iowa
  • Andrew Ford, quarterback – UMass
