The Minnesota Vikings put on a great defensive display in Week 9 against the Detroit Lions with some players putting on some great performances.

In an important divisional matchup during Week 9, the Minnesota Vikings did a great job defensively against the Detroit Lions, keeping them out of the end zone throughout the entire game and holding them to only three field goals.

Not only that, but the Vikings set a franchise record ten sacks against quarterback Matthew Stafford, showing off an amazing pass rush as well as some fantastic overage in the secondary. Still, only one individual could be the MVP from that unit.

Defensive MVP vs Lions

Danielle Hunter, defensive end

There didn’t seem to be anything Hunter couldn’t do on Sunday. He led the team in total tackles in Week 9 against the Lions, tying linebacker Eric Kendricks with nine tackles on the day, six of them being solo efforts,

He also accumulated an impressive 3 and a half sacks on the day, moving into the top spot in the NFL with 11.5, leading Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald by one and a half heading into the bye week for Minnesota.

Add in one fumble recovery which was returned for 32 yards and a touchdown, and you have a performance that could put him in line for NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Honorable mention

Tom Johnson, defensive tackle

Vikings fans should be thanking the Seahawks for letting him go this season and allowing him to return to Minnesota. The defensive tackle saw quite a bit of action in this game, gaining five tackles (four of them solo) on the day.

But it was Johnson’s pass rush that was amazing in Week 9. He racked up two and a half sacks on the day and one additional tackle for a loss. He also had a total of four quarterback hits on Matthew Stafford.
