Minnesota Vikings Ups and Downs: Week 9 vs the Detroit Lions
By Adam Carlson
Overall impression vs Detroit
The good part about this team is that when one phase of the game struggles, others tend to pick up in a big way to keep the team in games (aside from whatever the heck that was that happened against Buffalo).
It’s disappointing that Adam Thielen’s streak ended, but in the end, it is the win that is the most important thing for the franchise. Then again, it’s hard to get 100 yards of offense to one pass catcher when the entire passing output is 164 yards.
Still, the offensive line looked better than it did previously this season, allowing Cousins to only be sacked once on the day and the running backs to pick up 128 yards on the ground, averaging 5.6 yards per carry and scoring one touchdown.
But let’s be honest, the performance of the Minnesota pass rush was the star of this game. Danielle Hunter, Tom Johnson, Everson Griffen, and others did a fantastic job of creating opportunities and disrupting the Lions offense. Plus, Hunter now leads in the NFL in sacks this season with 11.5.
The Vikings could use a complete performance to feel great about their upcoming games against the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers following the bye week, but fans still have to feel good about their impressive defensive performance on Sunday.
